Check every airport and operating carrier on your journey before packing liquid cosmetics or powered beauty tools in a cabin bag. A familiar rule from one flight is not permission for every connection. Keep container capacity, clear-bag requirements and device restrictions as separate checks.
List the actual journey
Record departure, transit and return airports and the carriers operating each flight. Use the relevant official airport and airline pages, and ask about an unclear item before travelling. A booking agent’s name alone does not identify every operating carrier.
Note when you checked each source. Rules and screening arrangements can change; this guide is a planning aid, not a guarantee that a bag will be accepted.
Identify cosmetics that need checking
Review liquid, gel, paste and aerosol products, including foundation, concealer, mascara, cream products, sprays, perfume and sanitiser. Ask the airline or security authority if the classification of an item is unclear. Do not assume a cosmetic is exempt because the container is small or the product is part of a make-up kit.
Proflight’s retained get-ready guidance lists 100 ml maxima for liquid cosmetics, pastes and hand sanitiser. Check its current instructions for the flight you are taking rather than applying that statement to every airline. 1
Read the complete liquid-container rule
Zambia Airways’ published guidance describes liquids, gels, pastes and aerosols in containers up to 100 ml, inside one transparent resealable bag with maximum capacity 1 litre and dimensions no more than 20 × 20 cm. It says larger containers are not accepted merely because they are partly full, and items must fit comfortably in the bag. 2
ZACL’s retained security guidance separately describes a resealable bag no larger than 20 × 20 cm and says each item must be below 100 ml. Preserve the wording of the actual authority you need to follow rather than treating “below” and “up to” as identical in every situation. Ask if an apparent inconsistency affects your packing. 3
A 150 ml bottle containing only 75 ml does not meet Zambia Airways’ stated container rule. Check stated capacity, not just how much remains. Do not treat these examples as worldwide allowances. 2
Check powered tools independently
Record the exact device and how it is powered. Ask the operating carrier about its battery, fuel or other restrictions and whether it belongs in cabin or checked baggage. A liquid-cosmetic allowance does not answer a device question.
ZACL’s retained screening instructions list large electrical items such as hair dryers and straighteners for removal from hand luggage before x-ray. A direction to present an item separately is not blanket permission for every version of that device. 3
Pack for the actual screening instructions
Zambia Airways says to present the clear liquids bag separately for screening. ZACL’s retained guidance also says to have the resealable bag out and ready for inspection. Keep what you need accessible and follow the checkpoint’s actual directions. [S2, S3]
Do not assume advance packing guarantees no further inspection or that an exception for one type of item applies to cosmetics.
