Check the hair itself rather than relying only on the number of days since shaving. The American Academy of Dermatology gives a general waxing guideline of about one-quarter to three-quarters of an inch, approximately 6–19 mm.1 Before a professional appointment, ask whether the practitioner needs anything different for the area and product being used.
That range is general consumer guidance. It is not evidence that Luté uses a particular wax formula, guarantees a result at a particular length, or can confirm readiness from a message alone.
Use length as the starting point
If you want a rough measurement, hold a clean ruler alongside the area without scraping the skin or pulling the hair. You are checking an approximate length, not performing a skin test. If it is awkward to see or measure the area comfortably, leave the assessment to the appointment or ask what the practitioner recommends before travelling.
A comparison such as “a grain of rice” can be convenient in conversation, but grains differ. Millimetres or the original inch range give you a clearer reference when a numerical comparison is useful.
You do not need to measure every hair. Note whether what you can see looks mostly short, mostly within the general range, or mixed, then describe that uncertainty honestly.
Record the last removal method as well
Keep the date of your last shave, wax or other hair-removal method beside your observation. Those details explain your grooming history, but the date does not replace looking at the current hair.
Avoid converting someone else’s rebooking timetable into a promise for your own appointment. If you are booking for an event, allow room to ask about suitability and availability before fixing the rest of your plans.
If you recently used a hair-removal cream or another product, give the practitioner its name and the relevant instructions rather than describing it simply as “hair removal”. This is information to discuss, not a recommendation to combine methods.
Ask before trimming long hair
AAD says that trimming longer hair with safety scissors can make waxing less messy and painful.1 For a professional appointment, first ask whether the practitioner wants you to trim it or leave it for assessment.
Do not cut hair to a guessed minimum immediately before leaving home. If you have already trimmed it and are unsure about the result, explain that rather than trying repeated adjustments. A practitioner may need to assess the area before confirming whether to proceed.
For an intimate area, you can describe the planned treatment by its menu name and ask how the boundary will be agreed. You do not need to send an intimate photograph to make a general preparation enquiry. Ask what information is necessary and choose what you are comfortable sharing.
Readiness includes the skin
Hair length is only one part of preparation. AAD advises against waxing sunburned or very sensitive skin and if isotretinoin has been taken within the previous six months. It also gives precautions about retinol and prescription retinoids before facial waxing.1
Tell the practitioner about relevant skin concerns and products before treatment. If you use prescribed medicine, seek its prescriber’s advice before changing it to fit an appointment. A length estimate is not clearance to wax irritated skin or disregard a medicine warning.
A short readiness message
You could adapt this example:
> I am considering [treatment area]. I last used [removal method] on [date]. The hair looks [short / roughly within the general range / mixed / longer], and I am unsure about [question]. Do you want me to do anything before the appointment, including trimming?
This is a proposed enquiry, not a promise that the studio offers remote assessment or replies within a particular time.
