Your first wax is a choice about the area you want treated, your skin’s readiness and how comfortable you feel with the appointment. Start with those three questions rather than choosing the largest treatment or trying to follow somebody else’s grooming routine. You can ask questions before booking, choose a smaller area, or decide that waxing is not for you.
Choose the area and the result you want
Write down the area you would like treated and what you would prefer to leave alone. A treatment name is a useful starting point, but it does not replace discussing the actual boundary. If you are unsure what a menu label includes, ask before selecting it.
For a first visit, consider what you want to learn. You might want to discuss the preparation, understand how the appointment works, or try one area before deciding about another. These are personal preferences to discuss, rather than promises about what a studio will provide.
Check skin and medication considerations before booking
The American Academy of Dermatology advises against waxing sunburned or very sensitive skin and against waxing if you have taken isotretinoin within the previous six months. Its consumer guidance also advises avoiding retinol and prescription retinoids for two to five days before facial waxing.1
These are reasons to discuss suitability before an appointment, not to stop a prescribed treatment on your own. If you use a prescribed skin medicine, ask its prescriber about changing it. Tell the practitioner about relevant products and skin concerns. An appointment or a photograph does not replace an assessment by an appropriate health professional where one is needed.
If the area is currently irritated or you are unsure about a medicine, settle that question before arranging hair removal. You do not need to push ahead because you have already chosen a date.
Check preparation without guessing a calendar
AAD’s general guidance suggests hair about one-quarter to three-quarters of an inch long, approximately 6–19 mm. It advises gently washing the area and drying it thoroughly before waxing.1 Use that guidance to start a conversation with your practitioner; it is not a recorded Luté requirement for every wax formula or body area.
Explain when you last shaved or removed hair, but do not assume that a fixed number of days proves readiness. If you think the hair is too long, ask about trimming before making a last-minute change. For more detail, read the hair-length guide.
Discuss comfort and privacy
Before treatment, agree how you will ask for a pause or stop. You can also ask what clothing you will need to move, how the treatment area will be explained and which parts you do not want treated. Ask the studio what arrangements it actually offers; do not assume that a general guide describes its room or changing facilities.
Wax should feel warm rather than hurt or burn. AAD advises testing its temperature before application.1 Tell the practitioner if something feels wrong. Feeling able to speak is part of deciding whether you are comfortable continuing.
Plan for after the appointment
AAD recommends loose clothing, avoiding hot baths and showers, and using a moisturiser that will not clog pores after waxing. Cold packs can help soothe discomfort. It advises seeing a dermatologist if redness or swelling lasts more than two days.1
Think about what you have planned afterwards and whether clothing or another activity may make you uncomfortable. You can choose a different appointment date rather than adding an avoidable rush to your first visit.
Your first-visit question card
Use this as a personal checklist, not a studio screening or consent form.

When you are ready, explore Luté’s treatments and prices. The studio is in Lilayi, Lusaka, and its listed phone and WhatsApp number is +260 772 655 231.2 Ask about the actual treatment and availability before making travel plans.
